Carolyn Kylstra is the head of special projects and digital platforms at Google, working on the central editorial team within global communications and public affairs.

Previously, Carolyn was the Editor-in-Chief of SELF magazine, a 42-year-old health and wellness media brand at Condé Nast. She led the transformation of the historically print-rooted brand into a thriving and award-winning digitally led organization, resulting in SELF's highest site traffic and video views in brand history, as well as mass dedicated followings across social platforms, including Snapchat Discover and TikTok. Carolyn hosted SELF’s wellness advice podcast, Checking In.

During her tenure as Editor-in-Chief, SELF was nominated for nine National Magazine Awards, with a win for Social Media. Additional awards and honors included Hottest in Wellness and Fitness on Adweek’s Hot List, Digital Publisher’s A-List on Ad Age’s Publisher’s A-List, Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Health Website, two MM&M Gold Awards for Best Consumer Health Website, and a Silver Winner Telly Award. Additionally, Carolyn was honored as Digital Editor of the Year by the 2018 Folio: Digital Awards; a 2018 Changemaker by Digiday; and ELITE Digital Crusader 2020 by PM360.

Carolyn has been a guest on Good Morning America and Today, and has presented on stage as a speaker, moderator, or panelist at numerous conferences, including Cannes Lions, SXSW, the 92nd Street Y, WELL Summit, INBOUND, and the Wrap Power Women Summit.

Previously, Carolyn was executive digital director at SELF, health editor at BuzzFeed, digital director at Women’s Health, and worked as an editor at Cosmopolitan and Men’s Health.

Carolyn lives in New Jersey with her husband, two kids, and beagle.
